Privacy Policy
ShalomLearning is committed to providing a fun, friendly and safe Jewish learning environment combining traditional classroom training with technology based content for students of all ages (“Services”).
This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) describes how we handle the personal identifiable information provided by our synagogue and community partners (“Partners”) and parents (or legal guardian) regarding our students and collected from our site. As used in this Privacy Policy, the term “Site” refers to the specific site that our Partners, parents and our enrolled students (“Students”) are accessing or using for purposes of receiving the services, and includes, www.myshalomlearning.org and www.shalomlearning.org.
ShalomLearning is very sensitive to privacy issues with respect to children, especially those under the age of 13. Please see below for more information on how ShalomLearning addresses our Students’ privacy issues generally and also under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”), a U.S. law that governs the use and collection of information online from children under the age of 13. We encourage parents and our partners to regularly monitor and supervise our Students’ online activities.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully before accessing or using any part of this Site. By accessing or using this Site, you agree that you have read, understand and agree to be bound by these terms. Our Privacy Policy may change from time to time and with those changes, your continued use of the Site constitutes acceptance of such changes unless you advise us in writing otherwise. Additionally, if ShalomLearning makes material change(s) to this Privacy Policy as defined under COPPA, we will provide you with direct notice of the change(s) allowing you the option to opt out of the information we collect from our Site.
The Information We Collect, How We Collect It and How We Use It
In order to use the Site, Students are required to give contact information such as first and last name; home address; home and mobile phone numbers; and an email address. ShalomLearning requires Students under the age of 13 to provide a parent’s full name and a parent’s email address so that we may send the parent an email message that can be used to activate the ShalomLearning account for the Student. Students 13 or older may provide their own email address or that of their parents. If the Student/Parent are paying for the Service directly and not through a Partner, ShalomLearning will request credit card billing information including the billing address for the credit card.
If financial information such as credit card billing information is provided, we will only use the financial information for processing payments to ShalomLearning. The financial information that a Student may enter to pay for the Services is not stored by ShalomLearning, but instead it will be retained by a payment processing vendor(s) for the purpose of processing credit card payments to ShalomLearning.
As part of the registration process, we may also require Students to provide limited demographic information including birth date. We encourage Students to submit this information so that we can provide our Services tailored to the Students’ needs and education level.
While we collect the information identified in this Privacy Policy, we strive to limit the information we collect, both actively (i.e., what we ask children) and passively (what we collect through use of web tracking mechanisms, like “cookies”), to that which is necessary for Students to use our Services.
Additionally, when Students are accessing our Site, we may passively collect certain non-personally identifiable computer information, such as the type of computer operating system, the Student’s IP address, the web browser being used, the frequency for which Students visit the Site, and information regarding the Internet service providers, in order to make our Site more interesting and useful to the Student. We may collect this non-personally identifiable information through the use of software technologies such as unique identifiers or “cookies”. A cookie is small text file that is placed on a Student’s hard disk by a web page server for personalized record-keeping purposes. ShalomLearning uses cookies on our Site. We link the information we store in cookies to personally identifiable information Students submit while on the Site. Our cookies themselves do not contain any personally identifiable information. Our cookies reference the personally identifiable information Students provide during their registration on our Site. ShalomLearning links these unique identifiers with Students personally identifiable information; and we will treat the unique identifiers as personally identifiable information as long as they are linked. Our Privacy Policy does not cover the use of cookies by our affiliates and/or service providers. We do not have access or control over these cookies.
Although we do not generally give a Student’s personal identifiable information to third parties, we may disclose a Student’s information to our third party support vendors that provide technical support or other services, in order to help perform statistical analysis, data analysis, audits, or if applicable, a credit card processing company to bill a Student for the services.
ShalomLearning will use contact information, including professional contacts for direct program purposes, as well as periodic communications and program evaluation. We also may use this contact information if we need to contact Students and/or their parents directly regarding any customer service queries a Student submits, such as password retrieval. All information is kept confidential, and only shared with trusted outside organizations to improve our services or offer relevant opportunities. Rest assured that we only collaborate with reputable entities who adhere to our stringent privacy standards. Families can choose to opt out of non-essential communication.
Parental Rights
Parents of Students under the age of 13 have certain rights under COPPA and ShalomLearning recognizes those rights. Parents can consent to the collection and use of a Student’s personally identifiable information without consenting to the disclosure of information to third parties. We will not knowingly register children under the age of 13 years old on our Site without parental consent. Without parental consent, a child under the age of 13 cannot use any of the Site features. If a parent does not provide consent within a reasonable period of time, we will delete the information provided during the registration process.
A Student’s participation or access to the Site is not conditioned on the Student providing more personal information than is reasonably necessary for access to the curriculum. Parents can also review information their children have contributed to the Site, request that certain information be deleted, and refuse to allow ShalomLearning to collect further information from their child by contacting ShalomLearning’s customer support department at [email protected]. Parents should include their child’s username and the registered parent’s email address in the email so we can better assist you with your inquiry or request. ShalomLearning may ask additional questions or take other steps to verify the identity of the parents before responding to a request to review or delete their child’s information, or a request to further collect information from the child.
Links to Third Party Websites
ShalomLearning may provide access on their Site to third party websites (“Linked Sites”) as part of the Services being provided. Linked Sites are not under the control of ShalomLearning, and ShalomLearning is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of the Linked Sites, including without limitation links contained on Linked Sites or any changes or updates to Linked Sites. Once a Student leaves the Site, the Student may be required to submit information to a third party, over whom we have no authority or control, and who may have different information collection and use practices. Students and parents should always read a company’s Privacy Policy carefully, including those companies to whom ShalomLearning provides links, before submitting information to them.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
ShalomLearning owns the information on its Site. ShalomLearning does not share, rent, or trade personally identifying information about our Students, including children under the age of 13, with non-affiliated third parties (i.e., companies who are not one of our affiliates or who are not providing support to the internal operations of our company) for their promotional purposes. ShalomLearning makes every reasonable effort to disallow and discourage Students and children from sharing personally identifying information with each other via the Site features. The only personal identifiable information that ShalomLearning openly shares on the Site is the Student’s name.
Updating Personally Identifiable Information
If a Student’s personally identifiable information changes, or if the Student no longer use the Site, the Student or his/her parents or ShalomLearning’s partner may correct, update, amend, delete/remove or deactivate the Student’s access to the Site by emailing our customer support team at [email protected] or by contacting us by mail at the contact information below. We will respond to the request to change the information within a reasonable amount of time.
Confidential and Secure Personal Information
We work hard to protect our Students’ personal information. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to protect our Students’ personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. We use both technical and procedural methods to maintain the security and integrity of our databases, including giving unique username and password for access to the Site, SSL encryption for data transfer, firewalls and restricted access to data.
However, the safety and security also depends on the Student. Students should never share their passwords with anyone else and Students should always logoff before leaving their computer. If you believe someone has accessed a Student’s account without permission, please contact us immediately.
If you have any questions about security on the Site, please send an email to [email protected].
Effective Date and Changes
This Privacy Policy is effective August 4, 2016 and applies to all information previously obtained by ShalomLearning. ShalomLearning reserves the right to change its Privacy Policy in its sole discretion. In such case, ShalomLearning will post the new Privacy Policy on the Site and effective date of the revised Privacy Policy will be clearly marked. With respect to children under the age of 13, ShalomLearning will not use personally identifiable information from such children in ways that are materially different from this version of the Privacy Policy, unless parents are notified of, and consent to, the new changes to the Privacy Policy.
Use of the Site is subject to this Privacy Policy as well as our Terms of Use. Among other things, the Terms of Use establish disclaimers, limitations on ShalomLearning’s liability, choice of law and venue, and restrictions on Students’ use of the Site. Please review this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use carefully, because if you do not agree with our practices, your ultimate choice is not to use our services.
